Dear families:
Wonderful art experience for child and family! A couple of years ago, I took my daughter and a friend for the week to this art camp. We stayed at the wonderful Holiday Inn Express (it had just won an award for being the cleanest, best service award for the franchise). Every evening we took a mini-excursion to all the outdoor sites in the area...
The Missouri Conservation Dept. has a nature museum and center there to give you maps to caves, fisheries, hiking, springs, etc. We still talk about how peaceful and wonderful the week was. While the kids were at camp, I used that week to do my year's planning for homeschooling. There were so many peaceful places to work.
The art teachers that she has coming are tremendous. They get one-on-one time with them. This is a VERY reasonable price for all that they receive.

"The future of learning is here! From the comfort of home, our daughter took art and writing classes with Visual Manna via Skype on her computer. She thoroughly enjoyed learning and growing in each of these classes. I'd recommend Visual Manna's online learning to homeschool students, traditional students and students of all ages looking to expand their horizons, but may not have the time to commute and take traditional courses. Visual Manna offered my daughter skills that she will treasure for a lifetime."
Danielle took the online art class from Sharon. She worked on watercolor, pastel, and mixed media through the online class. She won a second and third place ribbon in a local art contest for her art work. Taking the class gave her the confidence to enter the contest. She was able to work on these projects with Sharon online during the class.

Here are some testimonials:
Brie Jenkins, 2007 “Best of Show” winner in the Missouri Junior Duck Stamp Competition was at the Visual Manna Art Camp learning technique from Salem’s own Michael Helm. Brie also placed in the top ten nationally in the national Junior Duck Stamp Competition. She also placed second nationally in the Wildlife Forever State Fish Art Competition. Her sister Tiara placed second in the National Wildlife Forever State Fish Art Competition. Both girls have been entering and winning and placing in art competitions for the past 7 years, and are gearing towards a career in the field of art. Visual Manna Art Camp is has a variety of ages, but has a common goal, to encourage students in technique and honing art skills and let them experience painting from master artists living in the Salem vicinity.
"Your computer class is wonderful. We had a room full of students discovering fun ways to develop ideas and creatively display those ideas on the computer. Students more advanced, who are computer graphic savvy, found exciting ways to enhance their projects and share them on the web and learned to move to a higher level with their creative endeavors."
Thanks for a great class.

CLICK ON OUR NEWSLETTERS TO GET A FREE SAMPLE LESSON. Here is part of our newest review from The Old Schoolhouse Magazine: Sharon Jeffus of Visual Manna wants to bring out the creativity and individuality of every child. Her books and materials help in that goal. This new series, called Artsy Animals, is delightful! Artsy Animals Learn to Read makes learning fun and exciting for our young learners. The book provides several benefits to children. First, it teaches reading using phonics and rhyming. Next, it develops fine motor skills through drawing using basic shapes. The text begins by reminding children of the basic shapes of drawing. Then the letters of the alphabet are shown, each with step-by-step illustrations for the student to follow. Some text about the subject animal is supplied. For example, for the letter M, the student reads a little rhyme--"I see a moose beside a mouse"--learns to draw a wavy line, then antlers, then ovals. After adding a few details, the student has drawn a moose! Next to the moose is an illustration of how to draw the mouse. Then Ms. Jeffus provides a few lines of text. In this instance, the student reads, "A mouse can weigh one and one half ounces. A moose can weigh over 1300 pounds."
All of this ties in to meet the other goal of this book: To teach science/habitat facts and enhance vocabulary. Ms. Jeffus notes that the book works well with children who do not know English and children who have learning disabilities.
Younger children will be delighted by this gentle, fun approach. I gave the book to my 9 and 12 year olds and they had a ball copying the animal figures!
Artsy Animals in the Ocean begins with a page of Dolch sight words that occur in the reading. The lessons then proceed with the goals of increasing phonetic awareness, art skills, vocabulary and science facts. Individual lessons introduce beginning sounds, blends, or vowel combinations. For example, to introduce the /ar/ and /oor /sounds, the text reads, "Draw a man of war on the dance floor," and "Draw a manatee who is a he," and "Draw a manatee who is a she." Then students sketch a dancing man of war and a manatee decked out with a hair bow and a necklace. Very cute! Your kids will be amused and pick up some fun nature facts with this whimsical volume.
These new books are a great contribution to your phonics, art, and nature education. Visual Manna has been "Educating with art since 1992." We hope they will endure for years to come and add many more volumes to their collection.
WE ARE SCHEDULING WORKSHOPS FOR THE FALL AND SPRING. CONTACT US FOR MORE INFORMATION.
Artsy Animals Books are available and internet parties offered around different themes. Following is a review by the well known website Alphabet Soup:
Something New!!
We have a great new book for our book drawing this month! Sharon Jeffus sent me a copy of her delightful book, "Artsy Animals, Learn to Read". This book is wonderful for children to learn interesting facts about animals along with their study
of reading. It can be used as an excellent supplement to a reading program. Fine motor skills are enhanced by drawing activities!
Art Adventures in Narnia
... Sharon Jeffus, in her introduction, sets the tone for the book with her enthusiasm for stimulating and encouraging creativity. The Table of Contents is like a tempting smorgasbord laid out before us, a host of images arising at the mere mention of lions, knights, helmets and crowns, thrones, the lamppost, castles, beavers, griffins, birds, dragons, unicorns, and more. Oh yes, our children have attempted to draw many of these, out of their heads, without a lot of guidance, with varying degrees of success. The neat thing about Visual Manna's books is the plethora of images to contemplate and copy, and the instructions included for the younger set, so that even our youngest can experience satisfaction with her results. And so, you're not just looking at a page of "how to draw a lion," for example, when you turn to the section on lions. No, you will see black-and-white reproductions of famous lions in art ("The Peaceable Kingdom" by Hicks, lions by Rubens and Escher, and more), pictures of lions along with questions to stimulate thought and observational skills, and art exercises that focus on shapes and lines, shading, shadow, and texture. There are websites to visit, questions to ponder, pictures to copy and art exercises to practice. While working your way through the book, you might use art concepts such as the color wheel; you might put down your drawing pencil and dive into working with clay, you might carve a face out of an apple. You'll read about pattern, personification and perspective and learn the meanings of art terms as you read and experiment. The book is full of suggestions for exploring art with various media, some of which you might not have thought of yourself (Q-tips, foam meat trays, or coffee grounds, for example! Even though I didn't get the chance to introduce the material to them in a more organized way, art terminology and examples are scattered through the pages in such a casual-seeming manner that our girls were learning without even knowing they were learning. They just thought they were having fun! .....It says a lot for the quality of Visual Manna's materials that the girls are looking forward to it, even though they've already worked through half the book on their own.
"Recently I was able to go to one of Visual Manna's art classes where, under the guidence of Mrs. Sharon Jeffus, I was able to draw a detailed charcoal picture. Later that year I was able to enter my work into one of the local competitions where the owners of the city museum were able to observe my piece. The next day they offered to buy my it from me, and now it is hanging in the Civil War museum!" -
