(An explanation)

The art through the core set of books are lessons in the core subjects that are reinforced by art lessons.   An example is doing a project on why there is a rainbow in science and then doing it in art as a beautiful colorwheel rainbow.  It could be the science of  the steam engine by Robert Fulton; and then finding out he was also a very good artist and then looking at a picture by George Caleb Bingham of a riverboat...which is just what he painted (life on the Mississippi River in the mid 1800's).  Then students learn how to draw a riverboat.  The big curriculum shown below primarily teaches art.  It gives art appreciation, techniques, and vocabulary.  It has a timeline of art history.  Then it also has a unit study that goes with each lesson if you want to expand your study into the core subjects.  The lesson could be on the Teddy Bear.  You would learn how to draw a bear using shading, shadow and texture, putting him on a landscape with atmospheric perspective and then learning about the science of a bear; the history of the Teddy Bear; and what was happening in America at that period of time.  With either book series, the age range is about 2nd (depending on maturity) through 8th grade.  There are projects for younger and older students in the big curriculum with every lesson, so you can do the lesson with children of different ages with different level projects.  Your eight year old could do a Teddy Bear out of basic shapes and your older student would do a bear learning how to do implied texture; making the fur look real.  They would look at master works of art with each lesson.
